Your living room is one of the most lived in areas of your house. Some of us like to move furniture around to give the living room a new look now and then. Besides the simple task of moving furniture around, here are some simple ways you can update the look of your living room.

Wallpaper your living room. New wallpaper can give your room an instant facelift. You can opt to do one, two, three or all walls for a fresh update. If you plan on doing all four walls, then pick a soft color so that your room will look airy and spacious.

Add color with accessories. For a different look, play with textures and patterns. This can be new cushions for your sofa, a lampshade in a complementing color, an interesting vase on your mantle, or soft dramatic drapes. You could also place decorative items on your coffee table or your sideboard if you have one. One easy way to add to a room is to put up a painting or a picture on one of your walls. Instant facelift!

Another great idea is to display what you have. A freestanding shelf unit is no longer only used to keep books. It’s also great to display your family photographs, ornaments, vases and other knickknacks. Get a shelf with some drawers so that you can choose what items to display and what to hide from view. Isn’t this a grand way to highlight all those photos of your children and loved ones?

You can tie up the look of your living room by using the same wallpaper on your furniture and as soft furnishings. Some furniture can be wallpapered like the inside of a bookcase or a small tabletop. If you have vintage furniture, this technique can give it a fresh new look. This also works on whatever bargain items that you may have purchased for your living room, for example hatboxes or storage trunks. Once they get a new coat of paint and wallpaper, they’ll mesh well with the rest of your living room.
